Medical Herbalism
introduces the concepts and fundamentals of Herbalism and is very
practical.
It
includes aspects of plant chemistry and physiology, pharmacology, plant
morphology, taxonomy, historical and inter-cultural studies and the
all-important study of the Materia Medica.
The Study
program
Medical Herbalism
consists of four terms of distance education study, with 20 modules in each
term.
The
student is expected to spend about 5 hours on each module.
This
gives a nominal length of 400 hours including workshops. The student is
supplied with a comprehensive set of notes and exclusive COSS CD- ROM.
There are
two compulsory weekend workshops to cover the practical aspects of the
course.
This
subject must be completed within 24 months. It cannot be completed in less
than 12 months.
Assessment is by written examination at the end of each semester and by
written assignments and by practical assessment of competencies during the
workshops.
