Clinical
Experience is an integral part of the Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy offered at the College.
During
this experience, the student must demonstrate a satisfactory ability to run
all aspects of a small complementary medicine health care clinic and in
particular be able to effectively deal with its patients.
The
College provides you with a detailed ‘Check List’ to give to the supervising
practitioner which is designed to coordinate your experience.
This
provides a simple method of reporting the successful completion of the
experience, while at the same time directing it so no aspect is overlooked.
Students
can approach nearby practitioners themselves for this experience or the
College will assist wherever possible to find someone for them.
However,
all supervising practitioners must first be approved by the College.
Practitioner obligations to the student
A
supervising practitioner must be aware of their obligation to the student
which will include such matters as:
-
providing a broad range of experience involving most aspects of practice
-
to
ensure a student is gainfully occupied during the experience
-
not to
pay the student while they are receiving clinical experience
-
to
constantly assess and record the student’s progress, and to complete the
required College assessment form
-
to
attest to the number of hours the student has PRODUCTIVELY spent in the
clinic
-
to
never exploit the student or falsify the reporting process in any way
to ensure the student is
NEVER placed in a position of being in sole charge of a patient and/or
making any unsupervised decisions within the clinic regarding patient care.
