Recognition of prior learning
Recognition of prior learning leading to advanced standing in any subject must be applied for at the time of enrolment into a College Award. [Non award students are not eligible]

Considerations for recognition of prior learning can include:

  • prior tertiary learning

  • professional experience

  • relevant informal life experience 

Applications for recognition of prior learning need only be considered if:

  • they are in writing  

  • they are supported by documentary evidence where required 

  • they are from students enrolling in a COSS Award 

  • they are signed by the applicant. 

they provide registered study hours completed

COSS will direct credit transfer or mutually recognize any units of  competency completed through  another Registered  Training Organization which meets the strict standards of the AQTF
 
 

Applications procedure for recognition of prior learning

  • The application will be tabled to the College Management Committee who will review the information submitted.

  • The committee will advise the applicant in writing of their decision as soon as possible

  • The College’s decision to grant advanced standing will be governed by standards protecting the   integrity of the final College award.

  • The applicant may be required to sit a closed book examination set by the College in the   subject[s] applied for under normal supervised conditions. The student must demonstrate they are competent in the chosen unit.

  • Half of the competencies for the Advanced Diploma must be undertaken through the College of  Somatic Studies
