  Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy : study program.  
[HLT60507 ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF NATUROPATHY]

This qualification covers the skills needed to practice as a Naturopath. Besides compulsory common and specialized units of competency, there electives. Students must complete two streams of electives to comply.

The electives offered are Massage and Medical Herbalist. The Advanced Diploma requires a minimum of 21 units of competency, which equates to 3500 hours of study in the College of Somatic Studies award.

The Common units of competency are:

HLTHIR2A Contribute to organizational effectiveness in the health industry
HLTIN4A Manage the control of infection
HLTHSE2A Implement and monitor occupational health and safety policies, procedures and programs

Specialization units of competency are:

HLTNAT2A Provide Western Herbal Medicine treatment
HLTNAT3A Provide Naturopathic Nutritional treatment
HLTNAT5A Plan the Naturopathic treatment strategy
HLTNAT6A Perform Naturopathic health assessment
HLTNAT7A Manage work within the Naturopathic framework
HLTNAT8A Apply Naturopathic diagnostic framework
HLTNAT9A Work within a Naturopathic framework

Elective units of competency are:

HLTHER8A Provide specialized Western Herbal Medicine treatment
HLTHER3A Operate a Western Herbal dispensary
HLTREM1A Work within a massage framework
HLTREM9A Perform massage health assessment
HLTREM8A Apply massage assessment framework
HLTREM7A Plan the massage treatment
HLTREM6A Provide the massage treatment

Award Structure
The Advanced Diploma can be three and a half years at full time study or up to 5 years part time.

As you can see from the diagram on the opposite page, the 21 units of competency must be accumulated in a systematic way, which ensures the award had the appropriate balance of Health Science Subjects, Practitioner subjects, Diagnostics and Clinical Experience.

The 21 units of competency are comprised of the following subjects and all must be completed for the Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy.
