Established
The College of Somatic Studies
was established in 1983 to provide educational courses for natural health
practitioners through distance education.
In order to cater for the
educational needs of students, as well as to satisfy the requirements of
accrediting bodies, it was decided that the courses MUST be of tertiary
standard, flexible in the way they could be studied and relevant to the
Natural Therapy profession.
This allowed the College to be
one of the first to gain National Training Recognition for its programs of
studies and more recently full articulation with Charles Sturt University as
discussed in more detail further on.
All subjects provided by the
College are designed to assist people to become competent Natural Therapists
qualified to be accepted by natural therapy associations, the regulatory
practitioner bodies.
The unitised structure of the
College subjects also attracts students from a wide sector of the health
industry and/or profession.
Whether it be to simply update
their knowledge or to enter a different section of the natural health field,
the College draws students from retail health food and pharmacy outlets
through to medical practitioners, pharmacists, nurses, masseurs, herbalists,
homoeopaths, nutritionists to mention only a few.
Aims of the College
The College aims to enhance
professional practice and advance the creation, application and extension of
knowledge in Natural Therapies by providing National Recognised Training courses at
a tertiary level. |
